ONSET-- With a setting this spectacular -- at the intersection of the East River, Onset Bay, and the Cape Cod Canal -- an inn might get away with offering nothing more than the natural beauty of sea and sand. Happily, the Point Independence Inn offers more: cordial hosts, pleasing decor, comfortable rooms, and a spa.

Bounded by Onset Bay on one side and the East River on the other, this 1880 seaside mansion turned inn is an ideal coastal getaway. The sun-drenched rooms, 270-degree water views, and contemporary decor consciously evoke an understated style well suited to the inn’s kick-off-your-shoes ambience. Doze off in one of the Adirondack chairs on the porch overlooking the yachts anchored just off the beach at the bottom of the steps, treat yourself to a therapeutic massage at the full-service spa downstairs, or rent a kayak on-site and explore the nearby coves and islands. Weekenders are welcomed with a Friday night wine and cheese reception, followed on Saturdays (in season) by a clambake on the beach. Open Mar.-Dec. Rates: $109-$269, including continental breakfast (mid-May to mid-Sept.). |

Poised with a casual sophistication in the historic coastal village of Onset, Massachusetts, Point Independence Inn & Spa was built in 1880 in a Mediterranean stucco style. Guests can sit on the porch overlooking Onset Bay or walk the 3 miles of white sandy beach. Spacious guest bedrooms and suites offer magnificent views of the ocean.
The onsite spa offers a menu with a variety of body treatments: massage, facials, skin therapy, manicures and pedicures. Golfers can enjoy reduced rates at the Bay Pointe Country Club a mile down the road. Easy day trips from Onset include Cape Cod or north to Boston.

Couple anticipates your every need at lovingly renovated inn in Onset
By MICHELLE POIRIER, Standard-Times correspondent- (8/15/2004)
"We like to describe our lodgings as casual yet sophisticated, in the Tommy Bahama-Coastal Living tradition," Mrs. Kennedy says. Vintage-inspired furnishings, coupled with casual wicker pieces and plush linens, are found in each room.
The Kennedys call their six-bedroom inn a boutique resort, a place where guests can park their cars in the driveway, not returning to them until departure. In the interim, guests sunbathe and swim at the beach located outside the inn's doors; relax in the on-site spa offering Phytomer therapies and products; browse in a gallery featuring an eclectic mix of handmade scarves, bags and jewelry; rent kayaks from the inn's fleet of 20, exploring the bay; or catch stripers and blues in the waters off of Martha's Vineyard.
At day's end, the hosts happily point their guests in the direction of walking-distance dining establishments.
